Okanagan Kombucha & Kefir

Benefits of Water Kefir

Kombucha is a fermented tea drink that has been around for over 2000 years. It is made by fermenting a sugar solution with bacteria and yeast and then adding flavorings like fruit, herbs, or flowers.

Kefir is another fermented milk product that was originally created in the Caucasus Mountains of Russia. It is made by fermenting milk with kefir grains which are a symbiotic colony of bacteria and yeast.

Kombucha and water kefir benefits are wide-ranging. They are both high in probiotics and antioxidants, which can help your digestive system stay healthy and reduce inflammation in your body.

The two drinks work together to create even more benefits to your health, including increased energy levels and improved mental clarity.

Unlike milk kefir, which is made from cow, sheep, or goat milk, water kefir is made by combining sugar water with water kefir grains—a type of grain-like culture of bacteria and yeast.

The mixture is then typically fermented for 24-48 hours, producing a probiotic beverage rich in beneficial bacteria.

Water kefir is not only delicious and easy to enjoy but also packed with health benefits and can be an excellent addition to a well-rounded, nutritious diet. . Kefir is known to promote intestinal flora, aid in weight loss and detoxification, improve heart health and increase immunity.

It’s simple to prepare and easily tailored to your taste buds.

Kombucha

Our locally brewed Okanagan kombucha is a fermented tea drink that has been around for over 2000 years. It is made by fermenting a sugar solution with bacteria and yeast and then adding flavorings like fruit, herbs, or flowers.

Every sip of our Kelowna kombucha drink contains live probiotics, enzymes and vitamins. Organic teas provide the cultures with all of the nutrients they need with no unnecessary toxins. Naturally effervescent and low in sugar, kombucha is a great way to increase your microbiome diversity.

 Water Kefir
Water kefir is light in flavour and packs a punch in probiotic bacteria - think of it as a cousin culture to kombucha. A non-caffeinated fermented drink that is effervescent and slightly sweet and is made from sweet water and bacteria colonies that take the shape of ‘grains’ commonly called kefir grains (no relation to actual grains). These little culture bacterial balls are translucent and filled with naturally occurring c02 to float (or dance) all over the fermentation vessel while they work!
Our guts thrive on a diverse population of probiotics, so the more variety of ferments you enjoy, the better! Cheers! 🎉
